14 Shooting-Stars for India’s Next ISSF World Cup

The Indian shooters, who have been authentic in their previous competitions earning medals here and there are up for their next test. The International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF) World Cup held in Rio de Janeiro which finished on 3rd September, India held their top rank, with 5 Gold medals in the tournament in separate category. With another ISSF World Cup to be held in between November 17 and 23, India has prepared an interesting team of 14 shooters to compete in Putian, China.

India’s Shooters List:

Air Rifle (Men) : Divyansh Singh Panwar

Air Rifle (Women) : Anjum Moudgil, Apurvi Chandela, Elavenil Valarivan, Mehuli Ghosh

Rifle 3-Position (Men) : Akhil Sheoran, Sanjeev Rajput

Rifle 3-Position (Women) : Anjum Moudgil

Air Pistol (Men) : Saurav Chaudhary, Abhishek Verma, Shahzar Rizvi

Air Pistol (Women) : Yashaswini Singh Deswal, Manu Bhaker

Rapid Fire Pistol (Men) : Anish Bhanwala

Sports Pistol (Women) : Rahi Sarnobat, Manu Bhaker

Among the 14 that qualified for the event, Manu Bhaker and Anjum Moudgil are the only two athletes to have grabbed the chance for 2 separate categories. While Anjum Moudgil secured berths in the 10m Air Rifle and 50m Rifle 3-Position category; Manu Bhaker will be competing in the 10m Air Pistol and 25m Pistol (Sports Pistol) events.

Athletes from around 35 nations have taken part in the tournament where each event will have increased number of participants, to be precise 18. The qualified players are also having the opportunity to take part in mixed team events in both pistol and rifle to lift the President’s Trophy.

India is currently on top of the medal tally, after four ISSF World Cup stages this year, and have so far achieved 16 Gold medals, 4 Silver medals and 2 Bronze medals; and hope to continue the good form.
