550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak is celebrated with great fervour

It’s a very special day for not only the Sikh population of the nation, but the whole of India, as it marks the 550th year since the birth of Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism. The birth anniversary of Guru Nanak has been celebrated by devotees from the length and breadth of the country creating a huge attraction across the world.  The gurudwara’s across the country are thronged by devotees who are timming with excitement and ecstasy

The langar programs  were extraordinarily jovial this year with melodious kirtans echoing all around. The prabhat pheris were no less as well.  On Sunday evening, a huge crowd of devotees joined a nagar kirtan from Dashmesh Darbar to Wadala ground. A day long function which will entertain the crowd of devotees with kirtan, langar and recitation from the Granth Sahib, has attracted approximately five thousand devotees in Mumbai and is being organised today at Wadala ground.

This year, there are more than one reason to celebrate Guru Nanak’s birthday. Not only does it mark the 550th birth anniversary of our Guru, but it also proclaims the opening of the Kartarpur corridor.” Says Bunty Singh, a fellow devotee.  He described how the life of Nanak was spent in different places with various different stories, one of which was Kartarpur. In fact, he has spent 18 years of his life in Kartarpur.  It thus indeed is a very special moment for the country and the grand celebration thus held is well received.
