A Dream Coming True For Jaiswal

India has many talents in its grassroots level which often does not get the desired credit that they deserve. Yashasvi Jaiswal’s story became somewhat similar, as poverty seemed to deny him from his dream. However, his dark days seems to be over with his magnificent game at the Vijay Hazare Trophy and a bright future waiting ahead of him.

With 2 centuries recorded in previous matches, Jaiswal went on to hit a double ton becoming the youngest player to debut in India’s premier one-day tournament. Though interested in cricket from a young age, he did not possess the right guidance or coaching due to severe poverty. In the ‘City of Dreams’-Mumbai he arrived with the sole purpose and a dream to feature in the highest level of cricket, but with little to no help from his family staying back at home, eventually spending his nights in different shelters and going around doing odd jobs to satisfy his stomach.

From selling Pani Puri to working as a ball boy, he survived through most thin, Jwala Singh, a former Junior Mumbai cricketer and Coach came to notice his distinct talent and strokes in Mumbai’s Azad Maidan in December 2013. Jwala became the guardian angel to provide him a shelter and food in his own home and after a few days started coaching him.

With Singh supporting him through training and morally as well, Yashasvi learned the lesson of earning everything through hard work only. The dream to achieve big working as a driving force, young Jaiswal showed a promising start, to which Singh gifted him his first helmet. His performance kept improving over the years, in School, to Junior Mumbai Side India’s U-19 team for the Sri Lank tour and then Asia Cup emerging as the Player of the Tournament.

Following up win his record breaking spree, he achieved a rare feat in the Ranji Trophy and now have been recognized by the nation if not the entire world, after scoring 2 centuries and 1 double century in Vijay Hazare Trophy. Yashasvi had a rare wish to wear goggles on the field, but was asked by his coach to earn his place to do so. After becoming the youngest player to score double ton, Singh gave him the permission.
