A Step Towards Plastic-Free Environment

As the World suffers from the abuses done to the nature from the severe use of plastics by all, many organisations have come forward to eradicate or at least, minimalize the use of plastic for the betterment of coming generations. Plastic has become more of necessity in our everyday lives, with most goods sold in market are packaged with plastic materials or simply made with it. Plastic is a sort of material which can be used and reused several times without any loss in quality, and for this particular reason plastic has become danger to our environment.

In Indian Railways, plastic has been a notorious item, as hoards of plastic bottles and waste are found in the station area, and cleanliness becomes heavy job. Stations like Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Kacheguda, Lingampalli and others with their high commuting rates have come face-to-face with issues related to plastic wastes, as passengers tend to carry plastic bottles and plastic bags with them while travelling.

To make amends with the problem at hand, Secunderabad Divison of South Central Railway has come up with a plan of installing bottle shredding machines at Railway Stations. SCR installed 22 such machines with the funds provided by Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) at different railways stations in Hyderabad and Secunderabad. Secunderabad-12, Hyderabad-5 and Necklace Road, Begumpet, Hafizpet, Hi-Tech City, Lingampalli each with 1 bottle shredding machine has begun the process. South Central Railway took the initiative to aware the passengers about the machines and its usages, and the public has responded positively towards this idea. With Secunderabad commuters shredding approximately 600 bottles and Hyderabad 300 bottles every day, Indian Railways initiative of a greener future has been widely appreciated.
