Amarnath Yatra resumes

The annual Yatra to Amarnath in south Kashmir resumed both on Pahalgam and Baltal routes due to improvement in the weather. The fourth batch consisting of 6,877 pilgrims who were stuck, began their journey from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu for the twin camps in Kashmir. Pilgrims were allowed by the administration to resume their journey on both the routes from Pahalgam in Anantnag district and Baltal in Ganderbal district after the weather improved and heavy rains stopped. The Yatra remained suspended due to heavy rainfall, landslides, and poor road conditions. Air transportation by the administration has also resumed from Baltal. The Yatra would continue for 60 days and is scheduled to end on August 26.
