Amit Panghal Enters Quest For Gold

India has been steadily progressing, recovering from their medal drought, earlier in the days. The only sport to have not quite achieved the due credit at the Worlds, despite having some great athletic talents on the side. Indian men have nearly lost gold at the World Championship on a few occasions. But gold has been a distant dream.

Amit Panghal has given himself the chance at contesting for the gold at the World Boxing Championship. On Thursday, Panghal in a summit clash of the tournament, he went on to defeat Kazakhstan's Saken Bibbisinov by split decision (3-2) under the 48kg-52kg category flyweight division semi-final held in Ekaterinburg, Russia.

He will be going up against Rio Olympics Champion, Uzbekistan's Shakhobidin Zoirov, to contest for the long-awaited Gold for India. On the other end, Manish Kaushik settled for a Bronze medal going down fighting against Cuba's Andy Gomez Cruz under the 57kg-63kg category.

Boxing Federation of India had previously announced that all the champions from the World Boxing Championship will get a chance for competing at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Qualifiers. Amit Panghal, Manish Kaushik, Bajrang Punia all have qualified for the event.
