Aptitude test for students by CBSE & NCERT

An aptitude test called ‘Tamanna’ (Try and Measure Aptitude and Natural Abilities) has been developed by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) for senior school students. This aptitude test will measure the aptitude of students of classes 9 and 10. A collaborative pilot project has already been conducted on 17,000 students of classes 9 and 10 through the CBSE affiliated schools present across different parts of the country. The Ministry of Human Resource Development has informed that this aptitude test provides information related to the strengths and weaknesses of the students, and it should be taken up voluntarily without the institutions forcing it on students. Minister of Human Resource Development, Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank said,

Each student is unique and differs from another. Students vary in terms of their physical characteristics such as height, weight, strength as well as in their psychological attributes like intelligence, aptitude, interest, and personality.

He added,

While, one may be outspoken another may be submissive, some may be creative and flexible while others may be precise and specific, some may excel in expressing their views while some others may do well in reasoning with numbers. It is these variations which make each student unique and sets the base for their behavioral differences in different situations.

The CBSE and NCERT have together worked on a very meticulous procedure for formulating this aptitude test.
