When the world got introduced to telephones, things were not too complicated. For every person you required to make contact with, you just had to call up the Operator. The one in charge had to establish connection with the desired person.
As the connectivity and network expanded, a few modifications were necessary. The initial step was to introduce a number system, so that one can dial the number appropriately. The concept of Area Codes came into the picture in the 1940s and was made effective in 1947. It took the name North American Numbering Plan (NANP). It solved the purpose both in USA and Canada of not having enough numbers. In its primitive stage, it started with numbering states and provinces with a single area code that had a 0 in it. Many creative ideas were implemented and many adjustments were necessary due to the prevailing rotary dialers.
Today Area Code Day is celebrated by spending some time to research on the topic. This day has witnessed several activities, both good and unwelcoming. Political activities are closely associated. People usually use it to locate various places as a source of enjoyment.
