Ayodhya Temple follows the path of humanity by hosting Iftar

Ayodhya, the land of Lord Ram has often been the center of communal discord for decades. But this holy month of Ramzan has brought Hindus and Muslims together, tied in the bond of humanity, rising above religion, culture, and politics.

The Shri Ram Sita temple hosted an Iftar party within the temple premises. Devotees observe the month of Ramzan with a 30 day fast. A typical day in this 30-day time span begins with a pre-dawn meal called Shehri. Post that, they neither drink a drop of water nor eat a bite of food. Iftar is the feast that they consume post-sundown in order to break their rigorous fast. This continues until the first day of the month of Shawwal, 10th month of the Muslim lunar calendar, popularly celebrated as Eid-ul-Fitr.

According to the head priest of the temple, Jugal Kishore Sharan Shastry, this is the third year in a row that the temple has hosted Iftar parties and they will keep doing so. An attendee of the Iftar party, Mujammil Fiza also stated that he celebrates Navratri with his Hindu brethren.

The Iftar feast held in the temple is open for all people to attend and relish in the delicacies. This will continue until the 4th of June which marks the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr, considered to be one of the holiest festivals of the Muslim community.

This is not the first time that a Hindu Temple has hosted Iftar parties for their Muslim brothers, a Hindu temple in Kerala’s Malappuram last year hosted the same with vegetarian delicacies prepared by the temple officials.

Such a gesture of love and compassion, done out of humanity and no ill will is what should resonate with our country and all our countrymen.
