BCCI fines Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul for their comment on a TV Show

Two Indian World Cup squad member, Hardik Pandya, and KL Rahul were fined by BCCI Ombudsman, DK Jain, on Saturday, for 20 Lakh each for their controversial comments on a popular talk show. Pandya and Rahul started the year with the controversy, which resulted in backlash and suspension for both the players. The payments are to be made within 4 weeks from the date of the order, which is 19th April, 2019. According to reports, the payment includes 10 Lakh from each player which will be given to 10 most deserving widows of constables in para-military forces who lost their lives on duty through “Bharat Ka Veer App”. Another 10 Lakh will be deposited in the fund created by “Cricket Association for the Blind”.

On the first week of January, Hardik Pandya and Lokesh Rahul appeared on the popular talk show ‘Koffee With Karan’, where both the players' comments based on women sparked controversies all over. The players were received with backlash from the entire nation, and a suspension by the Committee of Administrators (CoA) until the pending investigation, and called back from ongoing tours of Australia and New Zealand. They apologized soon after the incident, saying “They were carried away by the nature of the show”. After which the ban was lifted late this January, resuming their play in matches but with investigations looming over their heads. The duo was selected for ICC World Cup squad of 15th of April as well, and with the investigation over, they focus on their game for the ICC World Cup 2019.
