Bhopal couple’s innovative ‘Green Invite’

Wedding is an extravagant affair for us Indians and it is a matter of more than a single day. We have so many rituals and ceremonies to follow at a wedding. These rituals generate a lot of waste, to stop that some people are opting to have an eco-friendly wedding, like this guy from Bhopal. A businessman by profession Pranshu Kankane always wanted to have an eco-friendly wedding and now when he is finally getting married he has made sure that his wedding is completely eco-friendly. A wedding starts with invitations to the guests. Pranshu and his brother Prateek initially wanted to send out e-invites, although his father was convinced easily, it was hard to convince their mother. Pranshu’s mother was worried about they will invite the guests without using cards. So, Pranshu and his brother Prateek came up with a brilliant idea of sending ‘Green Invite’. They decided to print the invitation on a potted plant. In addition to information related to the wedding there was an additional instruction that read, “Do not bring bouquets” and “Don’t waste food in plates before disposing of in the dustbin”.

The cost of a single card is similar to the potted plant they sent. Prateek spent about 10-15 minutes to explain to the guests about the plant and ways to take care of it. They also made sure that no food gets wasted; Pranshu and Prateek collaborated with a volunteer organization named the Robin Hood Army, which supplies excess food collected from restaurants and weddings to the underprivileged. It is not the first time anyone has opted to have an eco-friendly wedding, people are deciding to have an environment-friendly wedding in order to generate zero plastic waste
