Boeing 737 aircraft slides off runway into river

A Boeing 737 aircraft carrying 136 passengers and seven crew members recently slid off the runway and ended up into the St. John’s River near Jacksonville in Florida. The Miami Air International’s aircraft during an attempt to land at the Naval Air Station, Jacksonville in a thunderstorm fell into the river situated at the end of the runway. The aircraft arrived in Florida at about 9:40 pm local time from the Naval Station Guantanamo Bay in Cuba. The incident left 21 people injured; however, no casualties were reported. The Mayor of Jacksonville, Lenny Curry reported that all people on board the 737 aircraft are alive and safe; and the emergency response crew reached the situation soon after the incident took place. He also informed that the emergency crew tried to prevent the spreading of aviation fuel in the river. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office tweeted, “The plane was not submerged. Every person is alive and accounted for”. In another tweet, Mayor Lenny Curry said that U.S. President Donald Trump had called him to offer help and that he reported to the President about no casualties taking place. The officials aren’t exactly sure about what caused the plane to slide away from the runway but a Boeing spokesperson said that the company was aware of the incident and will be looking into it to gather information. Cheryl Bormann, a passenger who was on board the plane said, "We came down, the plane literally hit the ground and bounced, it was clear that the pilot did not have total control of the plane and it bounced again. We were in the water, we couldn't tell where we were, whether it was a river or an ocean".
