But I had blocked you!

In yet another goof-up, on 2nd July, more than 800,000 users were affected by a software bug which temporarily freed blocked users from their block lists. Both users of Messenger and Facebook were deeply affected by this bug. Facebook however assured malfunction occurred will be fixed.

“We know that the ability to block someone is important. We’d like to apologize and explain what happened,” Facebook chief privacy officer Erin Egan said in a blog post. “There are many reasons why people block another person on Facebook,” Egan said. “Their relationship may have changed or they may want to take a break from someone posting content they find annoying.”

“While someone who was unblocked could not see content shared with friends, they could have seen things posted to a wider audience,” Egan said. People who are affected by the bug will get notifications and it will encourage them to check their block lists.
