Comic-Book Revenue Reaches New High

After the massive success of ‘Avengers: Endgame’ and overall appreciation of Marvel Cinematic Universe, including its movies and TV shows and the iconic films by DC Extended Universe, and CW’s Arrowverse consisting of, The Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, Vixens, Batwoman, Freedom Fighters: The Ray has led to a surge in the comic book industry, and all for good. After last year’s revenue slipping a slight bit, the comic book industry has regained its all-time high revenue to $1.09 billion in 2019. According to a new study by ICv2 and Comichron, the current standing of comic and graphic novels sales in U.S and Canada is $1.095 billion as of 2018, showing a jaw-dropping $80 million more than of 2017’s sales recording and $10 million more than the all-time high of 2016. The total sales of 2018 derived from the gains in book channels, digital sales and sales made through crowd funding sites as well. Sales of all three formats; comics, graphic novels, and digital, grew in 2018, with graphic novels leading the way, followed at some distance by digital and comics. Graphic novels largely dominated the market throughout last year, boosting up the revenues by $635 million from the total $1.095 billion; Digital comics also witnessed some growth, proving the shift in the overall market of comic-books. According to reports, John Jackson Miller of Comichron also noted that popular releases also helped bolster numbers for comics’ shops.
