Eco-Smart Stations Comin Up Soon

Recently the Vijayawada station received a Gold rating for its green initiative. Taking a queue from that other stations should also go green. It might happen soon as the center has told the National Green Tribunal that action plan for 37 stations which are to be developed as ‘eco-smart stations’ will be implemented within three months. The railway administrations have identified nodal officers to look after the implementation. The center informed this to a Bench led by Justice Adarsh Kumar, who is the chairperson of National Green Tribunal. The action plan will be implemented on all the major stations within a year and among them, 37 has been identified for now. The tribunal said,

If the CPCB finds that action plan has been duly implemented and selected railway stations are meeting the parameters of ISO 14001, such stations may be certified as eco-smart stations”.

The green panel already pointed out the need for implementing and monitoring mechanism with provisions of fixing accountability of individuals in respect of solid waste disposal, littering of solid and plastic wastes, defecation, etc.
