EC’s Voter awareness Forums

The Lok Sabha elections are just around the corner, scheduled to be held in a few months. Keeping that in mind the Election Commission of India on Monday announced that Voter Awareness Forums will be set up in ministries, government departments, non-government departments, and other institutions to promote electoral awareness among electorates.

A statement issued by the EC said that the EC will brief the Nodal officers of Ministries, Government of India and a representative from Federations on 16th January at the Pravasi Bhartiya Kendra in Delhi. Such briefing sessions will be held in different places across the country.

The primary motif of these forums is to inform and aware people who did not receive any formal education through activities like discussions, quizzes, and competitions. Last year on January 25th, National Voters Day the EC launched Electoral Literacy Club programme, who will carry out the forums. The ELCs have been set up in educational institutions and Chunav Pathsala at every booth to carry out the operation. Its been only a year and already 2.11 lakhs ELCs have been established across India.
