Elevated expressway between Delhi & Dehradun

The Government of India has finally given its assent to a proposed elevated highway between Delhi and Dehradun which will reduce the distance between the two places from 250 Km to 180 Km. Currently it takes five to six hours to drive from Delhi to Dehradun through the current expressway which passes through Meerut, Muzaffarnagar and Roorkee. The proposed elevated highway will touch Baghpat and Saharanpur and will reduce the total drive time. A top official of the Office of Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat recently had a meeting with S S Sandhu, chairman of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and confirmed about the project getting a nod from the centre. CM Rawat said, “With the completion of the elevated road, the distance can be covered in as little as two and a half hours. The elevated road will give a major fillip to tourism and prove to be a big factor in the state’s economic development”. Rawat expressed that this project will act as a major boost to the connectivity to the Himalayan state. The project will be executed in three phases, the first phase being 31.2 Km long. It will connect Akshardham in Delhi and eastern peripheral expressway and is going to have an 18 km stretch of elevated road. The second phase will be 118 km long and will connect eastern peripheral expressway and Saharanpur. While, the last phase is going to be 20.7 km long and will be connecting Ganeshpur to Dehradun.
