First ever image of a black hole unveiled

Scientists have recently announced a revolutionary discovery and unveiled the first ever photograph of a black hole, one of the most powerful forces that exists in the universe. According to NASA black hole is formed in the universe when a massive star collapses in upon itself in a supernova explosion. A new type of a telescope has been used by a group of astronomers from around the world to capture the first ever photograph of a black hole which was until then considered to be unphotographable. Scientists have used Event Horizon Telescope observations of the centre of the galaxy M87 to get the first picture of a black hole. The Event Horizon Telescope in a press release said, “The Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) is a planet-scale array of eight ground-based radio telescopes forged through international collaboration which was designed to capture images of a black hole. The EHT links telescopes around the globe to form an Earth-sized virtual telescope with unprecedented sensitivity and resolution. The EHT is the result of years of international collaboration and offers scientists a new way to study the most extreme objects in the Universe”. The image which was released by the astronomers shows a bright ring formed as light bends in the intense gravity around a black hole. A black hole is 6.5 billion times more massive than the Sun and was earlier considered to be unphotographable since gravity is so strong around a black hole that not even light can escape which makes it difficult to be photographed. This discovery will certainly open a new window in the study of the black holes.
