Kamakhya temple in Assam is all set to start its annual Ambubachi Mela this year. Devotees across the country will be visiting the temple during this time. The temple authorities have geared up for hosting the fete and the security system has been beefed up.
This is the time when Mother Goddess stays in her annual menstrual period and the main door of the sanctum remains closed. As per the sources, the central door will reopen on Tuesday morning. During this period, the farmers do not plough their land and stop worshipping at home, keeping the faces of idols veiled.
The Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) is leaving no stone unturned in promoting tourism by making the festival as attractive as possible.
Guwahati Police Commissioner Hiren Nath stated that adequate measures have been taken to ensure security during the festival. Over 400 CCTV cameras have been installed and control rooms set up.
The Ambubachi mela was inaugurated today by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Minister of Health and Finance, Assam, Shri Chandan Brahma, Minister of Tourism, Assam and others.
