High Speed Internet sans Electricity

Have you heard of the village Ghes in Uttarakhand? This village is presently known to all as “Smart village’. In spite of having a high-speed internet connection, this village is lacking the essence of electricity.

The state's Information Technology Development Agency (ITDA) focused on bringing in high-speed internet facilities to the village. Interestingly, they tried something different this time. The mission was to access internet without electricity.

State Government sent a six-member State Wide Area Network (SWAN) team to Ghes and they surveyed an area of 300km to set up the planned internet connectivity. This village falls under the backward group and lack of education is ruining them. Therefore, with the help of the internet, they can make up the loss of not having a teacher.

It just took months to set up the RF antennas in Himini, Ghes, and two other nearby villages. They set up the antennas and along with that 2KVA inverter and solar panels were also fixed.

This particular project has a budget of Rs 34 Lakh. The best part of the project is that a government college in that locality had access to a projector and computer that actually led to high-speed internet supply to the rest of the village. The radius of the internet connectivity in the village is up to 200-meter.

As the concerned team completed the project, it was reported that many MLAs have talked to the government to develop smart villages in their constituency also.
