Higher Cholesterol in Crows Caused by Urban Living

Human’s urban living, which is more prone to having fast food on the go, have in many cases resulted in Cholesterol development among us. Cholesterol is one of the reasons behind the downfall in  human health, which attributes to Chest Pain, Heart Attack and many more other problems. In a new study it has been proven that crows can also have high cholesterol level.

In a new study by Hamilton College's Andrea Townsend and her colleagues, collected blood samples of 140 crows, from urban and rural California. This study revealed a higher cholesterol rate among urban crows than that of rural ones. The reason is thought to be the food these urban crow’s intakes in urban society along with humans. Human’s trend to feed these animals with the same food they consume, like burgers and sandwiches, which might have led to the increase in the cholesterol rate

However, it is still unclear, how the higher cholesterol rate among crows can affect the animal. Though the survival rate of urban crows have declined compared to rural crows in the last three years, but cholesterol has not been thought to be the reason behind. Still Townsend have not recommended urban food habits for crows, similar to that of humans. It is okay to take care of animals around one’s neighbourhood, and feed them, but it is still not okay to feed them the food consumed by humans as they have not yet evolved to the stage, where they are apt to having processed foods.
