We read or see news of accidents every day in the newspapers or televisions. Many times, we hear or read that due to delay in treatment the accident victim passed away. People are generally silent spectators during such incidents, but just like all our fingers are not the same people are also not. Harjinder Singh of Delhi, a former traffic warden is now an auto driver. He is not like other auto drivers, out of the several autos Harjinder’s auto stands out for the cover on the back of the auto that reads, “Free ambulance for injured in a road accident.”
76-year-old Harjinder drives the auto for an extra hour to earn extra money for the ambulance runs. Harjinder shares that when he worked as a traffic warden, he witnessed many accident cases where victims wanted help but there wasn’t anything he could do being bounded by his duties. After buying an auto he realized his goal of helping those helpless accident victims. He says,
“If God forbids, I come across an accident victim, I rush the victim to the nearest hospital so that a life is saved.”
His auto has a medicine box that is funded by the money collected in the donation box he has in his auto. Apart from carrying the accident victims to the hospital, he helps them with first-aid treatment in case of emergencies. Harjinder Singh is an inspiration for us and an assurance that there is still some humanity left in this world.
