Indian Maestro joins the League

Padma Vibhushan awardee Pandit Jasraj received yet another feather to add in his crown. On 23rd September the Indian Astronomical Union or IAU officially announced that a minor planet has been named after Pandit Jasraj. The planet discovered in 2006 by the Catalina Sky Survey, lies between Mars and Jupiter. The telescopes are based in Arizona in the United States. Pandit Jasraj said,

"Blessed... in this honor one can experience only god's grace".

Pandit Jasraj will join the league of immortal composers of Beethoven, Mozart and Tenor Luciano Pavarotti. The citation says,

"Sangeet Martand Pandit Jasraj is an exponent of Indian classical vocal music. A life dedicated to music, Jasraj is a recipient of many awards, honors and titles. His distinctive voice traverses remarkable four and a half octave."

One can look up the planet at the official website of IAU with the number 300128 as per the date of birth of the maestro; 28/01/30. Pandit Jasraj’s contribution to the world of music is incomparable. He created the innovative jugalbandi between a male and female vocalist, who each sing different ragas at the same time and it has been named after him as ‘Jasrangi’.
