Inflatable space lodges for astronauts

New inflatable space lodges have been proposed to greet astronauts in their effort to orbit the moon. These space lodges would provide comfortable environment in space and would thus enable astronauts to carry on their work in a quicker pace. Different companies have built mock designs for Nasa in their program to orbit the moon. Nasa astronaut Mike Gernhardt carried his team to inspect space habitats through different Aerospace institutes and finally arrived at Las Vegas, Nevada at Bigelow Aerospace, a space habitat company.

The Artemis program by Nasa demands the need of advanced space habitat and promises to land its first crew of astronauts on moon by 2024. This Gateway is a chance to test these structures in a deep space environment and can even open up an opportunity to go to Mars. The habitat designed by Bigelow, called B330 has been under inspection by Nasa. It is made of a fabric like material which protects the astronauts from radiation and space debris. The net cost of this program would cross a billion.

Other than Bigelow, there are four other companies designing mock space lodges. And each of them has received a few million from Nasa. The companies are brainstorming ideas about where the toilet, beds and windows should be and what should their design be. Nasa not only wants basic facilities, but also kitchen, exercise equipments and other facilities. Nasa astronauts have even tested the mock space lodges by living there. The hopes are high from Nasa for the coming years.
