New Suit For Next Moon Mission

Man’s obsession with discovering the unknown had several life changing implication resulting to the modern world we now discreetly reside in. The urge to always move forwards defying all hurdles, landed human on the search of uncovering the mysteries behind the Universe itself, starting with the outer space, as Moon came to be one of the most intriguing places for man to make many extraordinary missions.

Since the success of the first ever manned mission to Moon conducted in US spaceflight Apollo 11 in 1969, carrying Neil Armstrong and Edwin Buzz Aldrin; there have numerous manned and unmanned mission coordinated on the surface of the Moon by many countries. However, the spacesuit was designed in a way that led the astronauts to bunny hop on the previous missions.

As a solution, NASA have designed a new suit easing the movements and other things for when they will be going back to the lunar surface on 2024. The plan being, Exploration Extravehicular Mobility Unit (xEMU) for the Moon along with the Orion Crew Survival Suit were unveiled by NASA on Tuesday, featuring spacesuit engineer Kristine Davis before a giant US flag.

Orion Crew Survival Suit, is an extendable suit which means, one size fits all and the bearings systems on the waist, arms, and legs aiding in the eased movements of astronauts. The previous suit had the capability to merely absorb carbon dioxide until it reaches a saturation point. On the contrary, the new suit possesses the ability to both absorb unlimited carbon dioxide and also remove the gas into the vacuum of space.

NASA’s new suit will provide full life support in cases of emergency, all of which aimed towards the mission of landing on Moon’s South Pole in the search of water ice discovered in 2009 and use the Moon adventure as a building block towards the 2030’s mission to Mars.
