New Tech to Enhance your Smartness

As time passes by humankind progresses towards a future of advancement, with technologies surrounding them like a cocoon, helping their lifestyle. Smartphones, computers, televisions have secured a firm hold on our everyday lives, connecting us globally. In the last decade, smartphones have been an integral part of our lives.

The displays of these gadgets have gone through vast change in past few years alone to ease viewers experience. However, recently scientists developed a new technique which improves the whole smartphone experience. With the new technique scientists are confidant to improve the display, with brighter and better picture quality and longer battery life. The pixels in many gadget screens are lit by little devices called Organic Light Emitting Diodes (OLED), which assures a brighter display. However, to help one see their phone display on a sunny day, these OLED’s are covered with an anti-glare filter. But apart from improving the viewing system, it is known to trap half of the lights generating from the OLED pixels inside the display itself. This whole procedure reduces Energy efficiency of the OLED’s and to curb the shortcomings, Imperial scientists of Imperial College London in the UK, the Departments of Physics and Chemistry have reportedly developed a new type of OLED.

The team, including Dr. Jess Wade, Li Wan, Professor Matthew Fuchter and Professor Alasdair Campbell conducted a research, and in their journal ACS Nano published, by altering the chemistry of these OLED’s, a new type of OLED can be made that can produce a special type of polarized light, which might bypass the anti-glare filter. These OLED’s will also reduce energy efficiency, boasting longer battery life and lower carbon footprint. The polarized light generated from the OLED’s could also be useful in computing and the data revolution for having potential applications in the storage, transmission and encryption of information. However, these new improvements will only ensure advancement in the technical fields.
