Next Indian Army Chief

Lieutenant General Manoj Mukund Naravane will be succeeding the current General Bipin Rawat as the next Chief of the Indian Army. General Bipin Rawat will be retiring on December 31 following which General Naravane will assume office. Naravane is currently serving as the army’s Vice Chief. The Government of India will be appointing him following the principle of seniority. Before assuming the office of the Vice Chief in September, Naravane headed the Kolkata-based Eastern Army Command which looks at India’s eastern sectors of the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China. He is known to be a person who speaks his mind. Naravane is an alumnus of National Defence Academy, Pune and Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. He also holds a master's degree in Defence Studies from University of Madras, Chennai and an M.Phil. in Defence and Management Studies from Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore. Naravane has attended the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington and the Army War College. He has been awarded the Param Vishisht Seva Medal (2019), Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (2017), Sena Medal and Vishist Seva Medal (2015) for his service. He is also the Colonel of the Regiment of the Sikh Light Infantry. As an Army officer, he is known to be a person who always remain alert and tell his troops to do the same, even if the situation along the LAC is absolutely calm.
