Nigerian President wins second term

The President of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari won a second term and will be getting another chance to lead the most populous country of the continent. Buhari, 76, won by about 4 million votes and secured 56 percent of the vote. He defeated Atiku Abubakar, from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) who is also the former vice president and a businessman. The electoral commission of the nation reported that the turnout of voters were 35 percent of Nigeria’s total 82 million registered voters. The chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu announced Buhari’s victory on Wednesday, February 27. Buhari after his victory said,

I thank the millions of Nigerians who voted to re-elect me as your president for the next four years. I am deeply humbled and profoundly grateful to you for judging me worthy of continuing to serve you and for your peaceful conduct.

Buhari has got a lot to do for his nation since it is still suffering from economic struggles and a decade-old Islamist insurgency.
