No way to know who is more ‘liked’ on social media

Clicking photos, putting them on Facebook and having our ego massaged by seeing the number of likes it has received, is the peace all of us crave for. But it's all futile if your peer group and followers are unable to visualize it. As a part of a trial, Instagram is hiding likes and video views. Instagram as a part of a trial announced that some of its users will not be able to see the number of likes received on the pictures of other users or the number views on other users’ videos. Although the number of likes and views will be visible to the user. The countries that are part of this trial are Australia, Brazil, Canada, Ireland, Italy, Japan, and New Zealand. The social media platform has become a competitive ground these days and Instagram’s objective behind this step is to stop the platform from feeling like a competition. The photo-sharing app is owned by Facebook, and an official has revealed.

“We want Instagram to be a place where people feel comfortable expressing themselves. We hope this test will remove the pressure of how many likes a post will receive, so you can focus on sharing the things you love.”

The first leg of the trial was in Canada around May followed by Brazil, Japan, and New Zealand. After a few problems, the site has also started a new feature that notifies people before posting their comment, as it may be considered offensive. The site has introduced several tools to stop bullying, ‘Restrict’ is another new feature of this app that will provide better control to users on how others contact and interact with them.
