Notre-Dame fire-fighters tributed

The people of France paid their tributes to the hundreds of fire-fighters who risked their own lives in order to save Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris which happens to be one of the famous landmarks of the country. People from all around the world watched in sorrow as the 850-year-old Notre-Dame cathedral was gutted in fire, due to which its spire and part of the vaulted roof collapsed. These fire fighters had put out the flame and saved the 12th-century cathedral’s structure from collapsing totally. People gathered in front of the Paris city to thank those brave souls who gave their best to save their country’s heritage. The fire fighters were acclaimed for their bravery, determination, and professionalism. Paris mayor Anne Hidalgo said,

Thank you to Paris fire fighters, who saved, at the risk of perishing, a part of us. We have seen your boundless courage, your unwavering determination

More than 400 fire fighters took part in the mission which continued for 15 hours to contain the fire that engulfed the 850-year-old Notre-Dame cathedral. In spite of difficulties like the height of the building, the fire fighters were successful in putting out the fire and stopped it from spreading to the two bell towers and prevented their collapse. Interior Minister Christophe Castaner said,

We will all remember April 15, 2019. The place where we were. The people we were with. But above all, the heroism of our fire fighters who saved, that night our Dame and with it 8 centuries of our history

These brave officers saved the artwork and all that is left at the back of the cathedral. President Emmanuel Macron commended the fire fighters at the Elysee Palace and said,

Nobody will forget the first minutes. France, stunned, sees the spire of Notre Dame Collapse. And immediately, they take all the risks to save what can be. In memory of this night, they will receive the Gold Medal for an act of courage and dedication
