Pele’s last Brazilian jersey sold in auction

Football legend Pele’s Brazilian jersey which he wore for his final match for the five-time world champions has recently been sold for 30,000 euros ($33,000) in an auction held at Italy. Pele wore this particular jersey during his last match for Brazil, a friendly match against Yugoslavia at the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro in July 1971. This jersey was one of the hyped objects that were auctioned at the Bolaffi auction house in Turin last week. Other objects sold at the auction at the Bolaffi auction house were the yellow jersey won by Italian cycling star Fausto Coppi on his way to victory in the 1952 Tour de France, sold for 25,000 euros; a rare blue Juventus jersey worn by Italian defender Luciano Spinosi in the final of the 1971 UEFA Cup sold for 9,400 euros; shirt worn by Argentina legend Diego Maradona during his time playing for Napoli in the 1989-90 season sold for 7,500 euros; and a bat used by US basketball great Michael Jordan during his brief foray into baseball which fetched 425 euros. Pele, 79, is widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all times. With Pelé on the field, the Brazilian team's record was 67 wins, 14 draws and 11 losses. Brazil has never lost a match while fielding both Pelé and Garrincha. He is known for connecting the phrase ‘The Beautiful Game’ with football.
