Power is now in your hands

On Wednesday WhatsApp announced their new change in the app’s privacy settings. From now on we can decide who can add us to groups. Users from their privacy settings can select one of the three options i.e., nobody, my contacts, or everyone. Nobody will prevent anyone from adding the user to any group, my contacts- people on your contact list can only add a user to groups. The user will receive a message on their private chat allowing the user an option of whether to join the group. The invite will be valid for three days after which it will expire. The move has been first launched in India in the wake of election season. The center doesn’t want WhatsApp to be used by any political party to set any kind of propaganda. Political parties tend to create groups on WhatsApp which can influence the elections. Hence, the WhatsApp representatives said,

As people turn to groups for important conversations, users have asked for more control over their experience”.
