Pune Airport to Have Facial Recognition Biometric

Indian Airport have been steadily upgrading themselves to keep up with customer satisfaction and helping them have a comfortable hassle-free journey. The new installment to ease commuters journey, Lohegaon airport in Pune will have facial recognition biometric technology ready by 2020. The system will be used for passenger’s entry, security and boarding; almost at every checkpoint.

Installed by NEC Tech India Pvt Ltd, the facial recognition system will help commuters on a paperless travel. The technology will ensure, lesser time for check-ins and security checks alike, which will end the long wait one usually has to suffer. The whole project will cost Rs. 14 crores and is under development.

An initiative called ‘Digi Yatra’ under the Ministry of Civil Aviation, which is led by industries in alliance with the ministry to turn the nation into digitally improved country following to the footsteps of ‘Digital India’. Terms and Conditions allotted with the NEC Tech India company ensures that the tech firm will be responsible for its maintenance and operation for seven years starting from the time of being installed.

Kolkata, Varanasi and Vijaywada airports are next on the list to have facial recognition biometric system yet to be developed. Lohegaon Airport director seems positive about the outcome, as he believes the system will help the commuters as well as the stakeholders and airport officials to access all the required information about a single passenger at a short amount of time.
