Saturn may lose its proud feature- Rings

Every planet has their own pride… If Earth has green patches, Mars is considered to be the ‘Red Planet’, Jupiter the largest planet and Saturn the proud owner of four main groups of rings- these were the information we studied in textbooks. But soon things will change.

Speaking about Saturn’s icy rings, they are one of the most iconic and eye-catching sights in the solar system. Even new research suggests that if ‘Dinosaurs had birdlike visions, they would definitely be able to see it”. Those rings are not ancient relics and study suggest that the rings come with an expiry date even due to ‘ring rain’ phenomenon. After measuring the amount of H2+ in Saturn’s upper atmosphere, researchers came up with the result that there’s around 4,400 pounds of water onto Saturn each second which is put an end to its proud feature.

The majestic rings may be just a hundred million to 200- million years old according to NASA’s Saturn-exploring Cassini spacecraft. The worst part is, Saturn’s ring rain is not a drizzle but a downpour. The amount of rain onto the planet that in 300 million years from now Saturn might rotate ringless. The way they evolved, is the way the proud feature of Saturn will also ‘disappear’.
