Students arrested from fake US University

More than 90 foreign students have been arrested by the Federal law enforcement agencies in United States after they enrolled in a fake university established by the US government to check immigration fraud. Most of these arrested students are from India, according to the reports. The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have arrested more than 250 students so far who had enrolled themselves with the fake university - University of Farmington in the Detroit metropolitan area. The fake university - University of Farmington which was later closed by the Department of Homeland Security had 600 students enrolled in it, out of which most of them were from India. According to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), nearly 80 percent of the arrested students were granted voluntary departure and left the United States. However, this series of arrests have caused an outrage on the social media with hashtag #AbolishICE doing rounds on Twitter and other social media platforms. Senator Elizabeth Warren, a leading Democratic presidential candidate condemned this act and described it as cruel. She tweeted, “This is cruel and appalling. These students simply dreamed of getting the high-quality higher education America can offer. ICE deceived and entrapped them, just to deport them”. On the contrary, Federal prosecutors have claimed that the students were aware that this was a fake university since there were no classes. The fee of this fake university was around USD 2,500 per quarter for graduate programme.
