The former External Affairs minister and senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj passed away on the night of 6th August. Swaraj was brought to the Emergency ward of AIIMS (All India Institutes of Medical Sciences) around 9:30 pm where doctors declared her dead. The doctors stated that she had died of a severe cardiac arrest. The 67 years old veteran leader had a kidney failure earlier in 2016 and she opted out of the Lok Sabha polls this year citing health reasons. Sushma was the most prominent female face of her party and a very strong willed person. She had become the youngest cabinet minister of the Haryana government back in 1977 when she was just 25. She was the first woman Chief Minister of New Delhi and had assumed office for a period of 55 days in 1998. Swaraj served as External Affairs Minister of India from 26 May 2014 to 30 May 2019 and was an elected member of the parliament for seven terms. She was also a member of the legislative assembly for three terms. She was a very active person till the last day of her life and had even tweeted earlier on 6th August in favor of the government's resolution to scrap Article 370 of the Constitution. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "A glorious chapter in Indian politics comes to an end. India grieves the demise of a remarkable leader who devoted her life to public service and bettering lives of the poor. Sushma Swaraj ji was one of her kind, who was a source of inspiration for crores of people". Sushma is survived by her husband Swaraj Kaushal and daughter Bansuri.
