Swiss coins to have Federer’s face on it

The Swiss Government has recently announced that it will circulate 20 franc silver coins with Roger Federer's image on it. This is going to be the first time in Switzerland that a coin is being minted in a living person’s honour with the person’s face on it. The Federal Mint, Swissmint in a statement said, “The Federal Mint - Swissmint dedicates Roger Federer, and thus for the first time in its history of a still living personality, a Swiss commemorative coin”. Swissmint will dispatch these coins from next year’s January onwards. This 20 franc silver coin is going to be a limited edition of up to 95,000 coins which can be ordered and will cost 30 Swiss francs each. The 20 franc coin has an image of Federer playing a one-handed backhand on its head’s side. The Swissmint will also produce 50 franc gold coins with Federer's image on it from next year and it will have a different design. The pre-sale of the 20 franc coins has already begun from December 2 and will continue till December 19 or till 55,000 units have been sold. On that note, Federer wrote on Twitter, “Thank you Switzerland and Swissmint for this incredible honour and privilege”. Roger Federer, the 20-time Grand Slam champion is considered to be the most successful individual sportsman of Switzerland. 38 years old Federer ranked world No. 3 in men's singles tennis by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP). He has won 20 Grand Slam singles titles—the most in history by a male player—and has held the world No. 1 spot in the ATP rankings for a record total of 310 weeks. He ranked in the top ten from October 2002 to November 2016. Federer has also won a record eight Wimbledon titles, six Australian Open titles, five consecutive US Open titles and one French Open title. He is one of eight men to have achieved a Career Grand Slam.
