The Other Side Of Swami Vivekananda

What is the first thought that comes to your mind when you hear the name Swami Vivekananda? Doesn’t it remind you of the vibrant, highly intellect social reformer and the Hindu mystic who brought about a revolution in the thought process of mankind?

January 12th is celebrated as the National Youth Day, as Narendranath Dutta, as he used to be known in his childhood days, was a youth icon and his philosophy, rational viewpoint and reformation of Hinduism brought about dynamism in the youth.

Did you know? Vivekananda, although a man of great charisma, was surprisingly an average student having secured only 47 percent at University entrance level exam, 46% and 56% in the FA and BA exams respectively. Although he is known by a different name all over the world today, he was named Vireshwara by his mother, before changing it to Narendranath Dutta. Vivekananda is observed as a dynamic and determined role model, he is persistence and perseverance personified, but you will be shocked to know he never had a job, and Maharaja of Khetri, Ajit Singh used to send 100 rupees to his mother to help her cope with the financial struggle.

Apart from being a tea connoisseur, he also had an affinity for Indian classical music. Another surprising fact-Swamiji was able to predict his own death and it was to French operatic soprano, Rosa Emma Calvet that Vivekananda had declared in Egypt that he would die on July 4. He passed away on July 4th, 1902.

As we celebrate the 156th birth anniversary of Swamiji, may his teachings guide the people and the younger generation to strive for a better existence and to search for eternal peace!!!!!!
