Tourism promoting train flagged off from Kamakhya

The tourism minister of AssamChandan Brahma flagged off Kamakhya- Yesvantpur AC Express on Wednesday, February 27th in presence of officials of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) as a part of Assam Government’s tourism publicity campaign. It is the first train which is being branded with a state government’s tourism publicity program. The 12552/ 12551 Kamakhya-Yesvantpur-Kamakhya AC Express will cover South India and also destinations like Mumbai and Katra to promote the brand ‘Awesome Assam’. The state government wanted to use the railway service to reach out to people for the promotion of the state’s tourism and brands. Assam Tourism Department will use three sets of trains from the NFR for this campaign. Minister Chandan Brahma said,

We want to promote Assam’s tourism potentiality across the country through this initiative. This is happening for the first time. It will be easier for people in different parts of the country to learn the scope of tourism through this train. This will boost the tourism sector.

The train is decorated with images of various landscapes and famous tourist attractions of Assam to attract people. It will cover a distance of 3,025km and reach Bangalore. The chairperson of Assam Tourism Development Corporation LtdJayanta Malla Baruah said,

While the 12552/ 12551 Kamakhya-Yesvantpur-Kamakhya AC Express will cover the route towards South India, we are planning to reach destinations like Mumbai and Katra in the west and north respectively, to promote the brand.

Assam happens to be the first state to use such a medium of advertisement for promotion purposes.
