Tourists To Return Back In J&K

After India’s decision on August 5 to revoke Article 370 and with it the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, 2 months have gone by, but the communication blockage especially imposed on Kashmir have not been lifted. Prior to the incident, tourists were asked by the Indian Army to cancel their vacations and head back home, fearing a terror threat in the Valley.

However, after 2 months, tourists are asked to come back to the valley by the governor Satya Pal Malik following a “situation-cum-security review” meeting scheduled with the advisers and the chief secretary on Monday. On 2nd August, Amarnath Yatri’s and other tourists vacationing on the valley were asked to cut short their journey and return home with immediate effect, stating ‘intelligence inputs of terror threats’ surfacing, and days after, the revocation of Article 370 took place.

On the other hand, Universities, Schools and Colleges across the state have been re-opened by the administration, with Security Forces stationed at the entrance of educational institutions checking the identity cards of all students. Though the institutions have re-opened but classes remain suspended until normalcy in the valley returns.

Centre have been slowly removing the restrictions in phases but mobile and internet services stays largely blocked. The Valley will again be welcoming tourists from around the world from 10th Oct onwards.
