UK to establish new battalion of Gurkha Rifles

The Government of United Kingdom (UK) recently announced that they intend to set up a new battalion of Royal Gurkha Rifles whose history dates back to the time of British East India Company. The Royal Gurkha Rifles has time and again showed their capabilities during World Wars I & II and other contemporary wars. The United Kingdom government will set up a 3rd Battalion of Royal Gurkha Rifles which will operate as a specialised Infantry Battalion. The Ministry of Defence of UK has announced that it will start recruiting this year for the battalion and the Gurkha soldiers will be recruited from Nepal. UK Defence Ministry is in a plan to set up a total of five Specialised Infantry Battalions which will have expert skills. The Defence Ministry in a statement said,

For more than 200 years, Gurkhas have been an integral part of the British Armed Forces and have demonstrated exceptional military aptitude, with a 100% pass rate through basic training.

Mark Lancaster, Minister for the armed forces said,

The Gurkhas have built an outstanding reputation for their skill and bravery as soldiers through centuries of service and sacrifice. They bring unique expertise and perspective to the United Kingdom and British Army which makes them an ideal choice to form a third battalion of the Royal Gurkha Rifles as a Specialised Infantry Battalion.
