Unlearning the Unhealthy Roots

The Earth has been a mother to us all, raising us little by little, in its fruitful environment, providing us with all that is needed to live life, most importantly she has given us a home where we can thrive on our will. Earth has given us land to walk up, Water to dive deep, Air to breathe the bliss, seasons to bring changes and food to feed the hungry. Food at regular intervals is a necessity for all living forms to strive or face the alternative of being erased from the surface.

Humans have stated food as basic right for all but still fails to counter the world Hunger ratio. Other than that, the food that still feeds some stomach, are mostly corrupted with pesticides, fertilisers which more than contributing to our health makes us unhealthier in longer run. India is considered to be one of the leading countries in agriculture with 50% of the Indian Work Force employed in Agricultural sectors. With the start of Green Revolution in 1961 India came onto the brink of a mass famine, to counter which the initiator of Green Revolution, Norman Borlaug was invited as an adviser, and he introduced plant breeding, irrigations development, and financing of agrochemicals. But Green Revolution also eradicated another Indian crop which is rare in today’s time, which is Millet, the golden grain. Millet is said to be a golden grain as it is rich with protein, dietary fibre, dietary minerals, Vitamin-B; and constitutes of 9% water, 73% carbohydrates, 4% fat and 11% protein (table) and known to cure diseases like diabetes, obesity, infertility, anaemia, and even cancer

Residing in Mysuru, Dr Khader Valli also known as The Millet Man, has been working on a revolution of his own, to help us unlearn the unhealthy roots that we are forced to grow with. Despite his grandmother arguing about the decline in food quality from that of her growing ages, the thought of consuming something harmful for prolonged time occurred to Valli in the late 1980’s when he was working on a case during his PhD. With his keen urge to help many people from the maligned food that we are consuming in present day all he asked was the change in diet. Dr Khader Valli has patients lining up in his Mysuru residence where he advises his patients to the change their diet and food habits added with minimal medications, and patients found miraculous help from his advises.
