Use of wild animals in circuses to be banned in Paris

Wild animals are best suited in the wild as they pay harmony with nature. But when this wildlife is taken out of their natural habitat, forced to perform stunts and tortured and trained in a way to produce entertainment to the humankind, it becomes hugely unethical. Such unethical practice is performed by most of the circuses around the world and this unjust process is often taken for granted by the people. However, in Paris, recent events dictates that finally there is hope for change in this cruel practice, as more and more French citizens are protesting against it.

Late this Friday, a proposal was adopted by the Paris Municipal Council which declared to withhold the permits of all those circuses in the city which use wild animals for entertainment. Even though most countries of the European Union (EU) have banned the use of animals in circuses, France is still a step back as far as this subject is concerned. But its capital has taken the first step towards changing the situation in adopting this proposal. The sad news however remains that even if Paris succeeds in changing the scenario of the circuses in Paris, the other regions in France would still be the same.

“The decision taken by us was extremely vital and is the need of the hour. As the days go, more and more animals are taken from the wild and are subjected to rigorous torture. This was what all French people wanted.” Says Penelope Komites, a Paris councilor responsible for the conservation of nature in the city. She says that the animals are not even fed before they perform their stunts. “Most of the animals in the circus are lions. But we also have bears, elephants, tigers and even giraffes. They are taken from the forest when they are young and trained regularly.” Says one of the workers in Bouglione, one of the biggest and most famous circus in Paris.
