Vijayawada wins gold

Vijayawada Station of Andhra Pradesh is a very busy railway station and it has been in the headlines for receiving the ‘Gold Rating’ by the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC). The IGBC Chairperson of the Amaravati Chapter, Vijay Sai Mekha presented the award to R. Dhananjayulu, the Divisional Railway Manager of the region. The award is given to appreciates and promotes conservation of energy. The Vijayawada station has 100 percent LED lighting, the fans are also five-star-rated and solar power is used for water heating systems. It was an idea of the Environment Directorate of Indian Railways to reduce adverse effects on the environment by introducing the Green Railway Stations Rating System. In this way, both the environment and the passengers will be in benefit. The center is focusing on reducing the usage of non-renewable resources of energy and they are hopeful that the rating system will encourage more of the railway stations to go green
