Virat Kohli hit the headlines not because of the Cricket World Cup but for washing his car with drinking water after a domestic help was found cleaning a car with running water from a pipe outside Kohli's DLF Phase 1 residence here, an official said. The captain of the Indian Cricket team has been fined Rs 500 by the Gurgaon Municipal Corporation, A municipality official has confirmed it to media.

According to the ABP News report, the Indian captain's neighbours lodged a complaint suggesting that about half a dozen cars – including two SUVs – are parked in Kohli's house and thousands of litres of drinking water is being wasted in washing them by the cricketer's domestic help.

Along with Kohli's, some 10 other houses were also filmed doing the same as challans were issued against them all. Several areas in Northern India are facing water crisis this summer, with the temperatures touching 45-degree Celsius and Gurugram isn't free of such water problems either.

Rohilla said that various teams of the civic body go around inspecting water wastage in the city and had taken cognizance of the matter during the inspection of the area.

He also added that, this was not a standalone case in which penalty has been imposed for wasting water, adding a lot of times people are found wasting water during gardening as well.

Kohli is currently in England where he is leading the Indian team in the Cricket World Cup.
