Vishakhapatnam to welcome the country’s first sea-pools

Vishakhapatnam has always been a common tourist destination in India. A perfect combination of mountains, beaches, tourist spots and pristine scenery, it is flocked by tourists mostly throughout the year except when the temperature doesn’t get along. The tourist graph is likely to rise soon as Vishakhapatnam is to become the first place in India to have sea-pools.

Sea-pools are generally man-made saltwater pools built adjacent to the sea. These structures are very popular in the west and are a safe haven for tourists- adults and children alike, to spend quality time with essential safety. Sea-pools reduce the risk of drowning by a great extent. In addition, parents can be assured that their children won’t be exposed to chlorinated water as in the normal swimming pools. Sea-pools also make it possible to experience safe snorkelling and participate in water sports incessantly.  Although India is very new to this concept, countries like England and Australia are dotted with numerous sea-pools. Chile’s San Alfonso del Mar, being the world’s largest sea-pool has zero threats or victim instances till date.

Vishakhapatnam has been a victim to more than 450 deaths in the last ten years because of drowning in the sea. The Andhra Pradesh government came up with the idea of sea-pool installation to ensure added safety. An official statement also highlights deployment of lifeguards, police and watchtowers near sea-pools to ensure additional safety. The safety protocol also includes inflatable boats, floating walls, restraining structures and all-terrain vehicles. The project plans include building sea-pools across the beaches at Rushikonda, Mangamaripeta, Sagaranagar and Lawson’s Bay. Based on the preliminary success reports, these unique pools will be laid out all along the 23-km beach corridor without compromising beach-side experience. With this new development, Vishakhapatnam is going to relocate itself in numerous tourist buckets. It will surely be exciting to take a dip in one such pool and feel the thrill and enjoyment.
